Kehilla Residential Programme, present Synagogues and Parking Lots, an event on how to introduce housing on underutilized properties of faith-based congregations.
This event will help demonstrate that housing has the potential to be an implementable solution on under-utilized properties of faith-based congregations. Although each faith-based property is unique, opportunities to leverage one's land for social purpose real estate exist in many circumstances, offering significant benefits to our communities and city. According to Statistics Canada 2016 Census data, over 1.3 million households spend over 30 percent of their income on housing. This reality is particularly acute in Canada's largest cities, where an unprecedented affordability crisis exacerbates a severe shortage of affordable rental housing. With the ongoing housing crisis affecting every Canadian, this event introduces the concept of intensifying current synagogue sites with affordable housing options that can serve its Jewish populations.
